Distinctive Dining

Market Day, 1840

"Oysters, New Oysters, new!" "Mussels, Cockles, live-o!" "Chestnuts, sir, hot chestnuts!" "Hot Pies!" "Pasties!" "Brooms!" "Strawberries!" "Cherries!" The cries of the market vendors filled the air. Walking was impossible, one pushed one's way through the throng, or was carried by the human current. Animal and human noises blended together to create a natural symphony. It was market day in the village of Apthorp Nesbitt. Here one could dine cheaply and well on the produce of the land.
